Top streetwear Highlights of 2021

2021 will soon be behind us, so we thought why not look over the year and appreciate the good things that has come out of it. When it comes to streetwear, 2021 has been nothing but a blessing - so here is a quick rundown:

1. Kanye West and Gap Collab

Gap hit it big this year with a ten-year multi-million collaboration with the music mogul—Kanye West. The brand could definitely do with more collabs of this nature to help push it back to the forefront of our minds. Perhaps, a collaboration with Kanye West is just what Gap needs.

The collaboration, Yeezy Gap, is estimated to generate approximately $1 Billion in annual sales at the five-year mark. With the two having the option of renewing the contract. This sounds like a good deal on both ends, with Yeezy expecting to produce clothes in masses, which we hope will help Gap regain its dominant presence in high street retail.

2. Drake and Nike Nocta Collaboration

Late last year, Drake announced his collaboration with Nike, and we could not have been happier. The budding entrepreneur has been churning out products since late last year, and this year has not been different. This year's collection is originally designed for businessmen and women with on the go-comfort at the core of these looks. With the feedback on his album being positive, it is expected that this clothing line will do just as well, if not better.

3.     Travis Scott PlayStation Cactus Jack hoodie

2021 as it would appear, is a year that keeps on giving. Travis Scott Cactus Jack Line and PlayStation joined camps to present a capsule design limited edition collection. This beautiful royal blue Motherhood III hoodie is part of the collection and features the Play station's logo across the chest, and a Cactus Jack embroidered logo at the back.

4.     Yeezy foam runner shoes

Kanye’s Yeezy collection has grown and expanded over the years. Now Kanye and Adidas have this year released hit after hit. The new colour ways of the Yeezy Foam runner caught our attention this year. These are to be styled and worn in a similar way to the Yeezy Slides - check out the key colour ways ‘Ochre’, ‘Vermillion’ and ‘MX Sand Grey’

5.  Stussy x Comme des Garçons

Stüssy and the trendsetting Japanese label Comme des Garçons have come together for a third epic collection of greyscale styled apparel. The collaboration featured a black coach's jacket, a grey hooded sweatshirt, and a t-shirt in both black and white.

6.     Telfar

The Telfar bag was first released in 2014, and almost seven years later has the "it" status. The bag designed by Telfar Clemens, a self-taught Black designer from Queens, boasts of Beyoncé’s stamp of approval. So why is the shopping bag so popular?  The bags come in a variety of colours, three sizes, are made out of 100% vegan leather and features cross-body straps and handles so they can be worn multiple ways. Besides that, the bag gained a cult-like following thanks to protests and activism in 2020.

7.      A bathing Ape Babe STA low trainers

A bathing Ape’s Babe trainer have been in the market for a while, gracing the feet of Kanye West and Pharrell. According to Selfridges, they even have a song written about them by Soulja Boy in his ‘Crank That’: “Haters get mad ‘cus, I got me some Bathin' Apes."  The iconic shoes made a comeback in 2021, retaining some of the best features of the previous pair with a shooting star and a chunky sole.
